Import Failed — File Too Large
1 min read0 viewsUpdated on September 3, 2026
Fix import failures caused by hosting file-size limits.
Template kits bundle a lot into one file — dozens of templates, images, and settings — which routinely exceeds the default upload limits on budget or shared hosting plans. If the import fails immediately (rather than stalling partway through, which points to a timeout instead), this is almost certainly the cause.
Check your hosting's
upload_max_filesizeandpost_max_sizevalues (Tools → Site Health → Info → Server).Increase both values to at least 64MB, then retry the import.
If you can't change PHP settings yourself — common on shared hosting where these are locked — ask your hosting provider to raise these limits; it's a routine, low-risk request most hosts handle quickly.
If the file size looks fine but the import still fails with a memory-related error rather than a size error, check
memory_limittoo (see System & Server Requirements) — a kit with a lot of images can hit the memory ceiling even when the.zipitself is under the upload limit.
